The Charming Bird from Jaquet Droz is the first singing bird automata wristwatch ever and it is ridiculously beautiful.
The mechanical watch was introduced at the April 2013 Baselword fair in Basel, Switzerland to commemorate the 275th anniversary of Jaquet Droz, which was founded in 1738 by Pierre Jaquet-Droz, who created three of the most advanced humanoid automatons of the 18th century.
The attention to detail is insane. Jaquet Droz responded to a query about the watch thus; “The watch is not waterproof but dustproof. As there is a system allowing to make the bird sing and to let the sound – and therefore, the air – get through the apertures, the watch includes a membrane that let the air get out the watch but doesn’t allow the air and dust to get into the watch”.
